
The Rideau Canal connects Ottawa to Lake Ontario and the Saint Lawrence River through an impressive set of 8 locks. Also in the summer, the Queen Elizabeth is closed to motor vehicles to ease access to bikers. It’s 3.4 km to get to the Ottawa Locks from the downtown area along a pedestrian and bike lane. Walk along the Rideau Canal: There are different access points to the Canal, but for a nice long walk or short bike ride, starting at Flora Footbridge is a good idea.
